Digital editions of ancient texts
Read critical editions in which every difference between the manuscripts is a click away. Or make one: transcribe the witnesses beside their images, let Varians compare them, and publish the text.

How an edition comes about
- 1
Transcribe
Each manuscript, papyrus or printed witness is transcribed beside its images, word by word, with what the scribe wrote and how it is read.
- 2
Compare
Varians lines the witnesses up and finds every place where they differ: other words, missing words, added words, lost text.
- 3
Edit and publish
The editor chooses a reading at each place and adds conjectures and notes. Readers see the text, and every variant explained where it occurs.
